Lafayette Children’s Chiropractic Adjustment

What Is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

Spinal bones (vertebrae) fit together so that the mental impulses (nerve supply) produced in your brain may filter down your spinal cord and out over your nerves. These messages are responsible for communicating information throughout your body so that growth, repair and healing may take place. When vertebrae are out of their natural alignment, the potential for nerve interference is great.

Doctors of chiropractic precisely place hands on your back and gently line up the vertebrae into their natural position. This process may take weeks or month, depending on the amount of misalignment. As alignment is restored, the nerve supply more effectively communicates throughout your body, and healing may take place. As your body heals, your optimum health improves.

What Is Subluxation?

Since all body functions are controlled by the brain sending and receiving messages over nerves, when nerves become stretched or twisted (commonly referred to as a nerve “pinch”), this vital communication system is disrupted. These neurological disruptions are called subluxations.

Subluxations also cause abnormal posture, which applies tension on the vertebrae, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. This increased tension interferes with blood flow to internal organs. Lack of oxygen in cells, tissues and organs causes dysfunction and disease. One or more parts of the body may begin to fail, as well as health in general. Subluxations can also foster onset of sickness and disease as the body weakens.

Instead of threatening the symptoms of the disease, the doctor of chiropractic corrects the subluxations so that normal body function may be restored.

What Causes Subluxations in Children?

The pushing, pulling, and twisting on the newborn’s neck and spine during birth commonly cause the small vertebrae to be pushed out of place. Subluxations at this early age may lead to problems with growth and internal organ function. Studies have indicated a connection with abnormal alignment of the bones in the neck and SIDS. Some of the nerves exiting the neck carry vital mental impulses to the diaphragm, which is responsible for proper breathing. Doctors of chiropractic carefully check the newborn’s neck for nerve interference that could lead to respiratory problems. Every newborn should have a chiropractic checkup for the subluxations. Throughout life, falls, injuries and stress commonly cause subluxations. Young children may fall down several times a day, a common occurrence that, along with contact sustained in sports activities, may cause vertebrae to move out of their natural alignment.

Also, auto accidents commonly cause a postural problem in the neck known as whiplash, which can lead to serious problems with nerve interference. By having subluxations corrected throughout childhood, adolescence and then as an adult, you and your family will have a better opportunity to be as healthy as possible.

Chiropractic Is Safe and Natural

The chiropractic approach to healthcare is natural. It does not try to stimulate or inhibit normal body function. Instead, the chiropractor addresses the important relationship between the nervous system and disease. The systemic effect of vertebral subluxations is complex. Many illnesses may be manifested in your body due to abnormal body function caused by subluxations. In light of this, your chiropractor may be the best doctor to help you and your family.
